Kalina Simeonova, LGPC
Hello, I’m Kalina! I place great importance on making therapy a collaborative experience, and I seek feedback from clients on their experience of different approaches used so that we can find what works best for you. My therapeutic practice is eclectic, and I tend to draw from person-centered, attachment-based, strengths-based, and cognitive behavioral approaches. Through experience, I have seen the life-changing impact that a warm, genuine therapeutic relationship can have, and I find no greater honor than being a part of that. I have an open, curious, and humorous (when appropriate!) attitude, and consider myself LGBTQ+ affirming and sex-positive. I particularly enjoy working with clients struggling with multicultural issues.
I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in the state of Maryland and am supervised by Stephany Ponciano, LCPC. I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a B.A. in Psychology, and completed my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. I have worked in community mental health and college counseling settings, providing individual and family therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults. I have experience with issues of depression, anxiety, multiculturalism, stress, grief/loss, and trauma.
When I am not in session, I like to spend my time listening to music, spending time outdoors, tinkering with a hobby like knitting or drawing, and taking care of plants – orchids are my favorite.
